Assignment 6: Logos, Ethos, Pathos.
Locate three works of design - one for each of the three modes of rhetorical appeal. They need to have been originally published, in print, online or in other media, in the last 6 months. Include the source for each, using MLA style. Zoterobib is a good, free citation generator. Cite the originals on each page. Make sure you are finding ads in their original published context - for example, online collections of print ads, award show entries, "Best Ads" compilations are not acceptable sources.
Important: Establishing the date of publication is critical. Any examples with an original publication run older than six months will not be evaluated.
Document each, - photo or screenshot - and explain how it uses a particular rhetorical appeal, and then create two alternative versions of each, using the other appeals. For example, if the work you locate uses logos, create a version that uses ethos and pathos.
You do not need to provide a complete visual redesign for each work - you only need to submit an altered concept for each, using words to describe the new version. Submit as a 4 page PDF file for on-screen presentation. Create a title page, 1 page for each original design work with your verions presented alongside. Refer to Class 5 presentations and the Rhetorical Handbook for a refresher on the appeals.
Note: celebrity endorsements are not permitted to be used as your alternative versions, because I'm bored of them.
Due: 6PM, Wed, Mar 13. Upload the PDF file to Brightspace.
